2008 in a short post
I wanted to do a kind of resume of this year on several points like advertising, Internet, Fluid’Advance and me…
Advertising
I think 2008 confirmed very clearly that changes are becoming true. New theories are published, the relation between the brands and people is definetly changed. Brands who won’t have any presence on the Web will really suffer in 2009… Even if the economic situation is not really exciting, we saw several great campaigns, I will remind particulary Wieden & Kennedy for EA Sports and the Game Tiger Woods. Of course, we saw some very strange ones like Crispin for the Whopper in the end of the year or for Microsoft with Bill Gates. Concerning France, I think we will clearly assist to a strict selection of the agencies. I mean most of the big agencies stopped their recruitment last september, the agencies who do not have many results or those who won’t adapt theirselves to the new advertising will disappear.
Internet
For me, 2008 is the first year where mobile internet appeared like usual. Of course, it existed before but it was quite rare. The iPhone really helped for this change, Google with its Android confirmed this impression. The first Notebooks were sold in France by SFR. New mobile campaigns appeared and the AppStore showed new possibilities like this Application for Nike Football with the Italian football league, that perfectly confirms this quote from Gareth Kay in this very good presentation.
« The future of advertising isn’t messaging.
It’s in ideas that solve business problems in a cultural positive way. »
This quote perfectly resume what brands must do in the future. I must recognise that I am really happy to arrive in these times of change… Of course, when I talk about Change, I can not forget to talk about Barack Obama and his brilliant campaign with a perfect use of Internet and social medias. It showed, once again, that on the Web, politics and porn sites are always the best innovators.
Fluid’Advance
Even if I was no as constant every month, I always tried to write relevant things about Advertising, Internet and Photography. I discovered a lot of things about these topics to find the best to share here, I am also very proud of this small community that I built (40 to 50 suscribers in the best months) it is really motivating to write new posts. Nevertheless, I recognise to miss time to write everything I want, that’s why I recently created a Tumblr account that you can see on Notes.Brieuc.biz. Do not hesitate to give me yours, I really became a Tumblr fan. Concerning the blog future, don’t worry I always take some pleasure to write something interesting. I also changed the Fluid language. Now, I live in Australia, so, I adapted myself and I do not regret, I think it’s a good exercise for my written english.
Me
To make it simple, I had 2 different time. My internship in Marcel Paris to passed my Master degree, do my thesis about the usage of offline media for a website promotion and my first months in Australia. In the Publicis agency, I learnt many things interesting and really appreciate to work on very famous brand such as Ballantine’s or Pastis 51 (Ok this one is tipically French). It was a great moment even if I did not work as much as I wanted on online cases (actualy, French laws are not really cool with advertisers… but that’s not the only reason). This internship was perfect to learn how traditionnal advertising worked and to decide what to do in the future.
After this internship, despite several approaches with big French agencies, I decided to leave France. Many reasons explained my choice (economical situation, wanted to work abroad, wanted to take some distances). Now, I am in Sydney for 4 months and I do not regret at all my choice. I worked for 3 months in a restaurant and I will travel for 2 months on the Australian East coast (an old dream I wanted to do in fact). I kept an attentive eye on strategic blogs even if I did not put a lot on Fluid’Advance, I took a lot of notes and am very impatient to find THE job. Indeed next March, I’ll be back in Sydney to find a job as a junior digital strategic planner (ideal case) or junior account executive (good case) or nothing (unacceptable case but I don’t really imagine this, I am sure I can find it).
2008 is finished, OK, so let’s live 2009 now.
