Flickr, Picasa, which one is the best to share your pictures ?
For a long time, I have really hesitated between these 2 main solutions for sharing my pictures proposed by Yahoo (Flickr) and Google (Picasa). Quickly, for me, the Yahoo’s solution is the best for different reasons even if Picasa offers some interesting advantages but the best for you depends on why you want to upload your pictures (quality portfolio, share pictures, picture storage…).
For example, concerning the picture quality, there is no doubt, Flickr respects the more your pictures, even if you lose some saturation, the results is clearly better than Picasa’s one. Look at these examples, of course, the uploaded picture is exactly the same.
Picasa reduces obviously the exposure, the colors appear grey, that’s not really agreable to see and it does not correspond at all to the original one.
After, the storage capacity offered by Flickr is less interesting than Picasa. Picasa is free, you can download big pictures (until 20 Mo now per picture) with 1 Go maximum size but you can ask for more, of course, you must pay. Flickr offers a cool free offer for the beginning but quickly, you see the limits (only 3 albums, 200 pictures, limited tranfert per month). So, you must buy a Pro account for 25$ per year to have every features unlimited.
Finaly, for the blog widgets or badges, there is no big difference between both, indeed, they’re animated or in html… Of course, with Blogger, Picasa is very well integrated but you can find many widgets to facilitate relations between WordPress, another example that I know for blogging, and Flickr.
Now, you know and you can choose…
